A characteristic feature of our instruments are wooden hoops which provide an original rich sound when playing the rimshot and the crosstick. The top layer of the hoop is made of a 1.4 mm thick solid wood, usually of the same kind as the drum shell, underlain by fifteen 0.6 mm thick veneer strips, and a 10 mm thick layer of a very hard solid wood (lignamon beech). The last layer consists of three to four 0.6 mm thick veneer strips.
Thanks to the flexibility and shape of the hoops, the wear and tear of sticks is significantly reduced compared to when used on metal hoops. The finish of the hoops is the same as on the shells, i. e. high gloss polish “French polishing“.
